Overview
To appreciate all the capabilities of ikaun it’s important to understand some key concepts. This section focuses on the key terms and capabilities that come together to build your solution. The following diagram represents the key building blocks of your solution and how they are related.
Pages
A Page is a basic, blank slate that you add Sections and Cards on top of. They are literally web pages that can contain anything you want
Types
A Type is a well-structured Page. The best analogy would be to think of a Profile on LinkedIn. A person’s profile on LinkedIn can have known sections of information such as Education, Work Experience, Skills and Accomplishments. If you’re looking to create an Employee Directory, a Project Directory, or any other set of Pages that follow a consistent structure, you should think about creating a Type.
Another benefit of a Type is you can leverage the Integration features to automatically import content from a SQL database. For example, if you have a database that stores employee information, you can use ikaun's Sql integration to automatically populate a person’s profile with the information in the Sql database.
Common Types include: People, Projects, Clients and Products.
Profiles
Profiles are how the user sees a Type. For example, if you have a Person Type, that has Sub Types of Work History and Education, you can design a Profile layout that shows the Education first, followed by the Work History. In this example, all Person pages look the same and use a consistent layout.
Sections
A Page contains one or more Sections. Sections are a great way to organize the content on a Page or Profile. We recommend creating a Section for each type on content that is being displayed. For example, you should create a Section for both Work History and Education.
Rows and Columns
Within a Section, you can have one or more Rows that contain one or more Columns. The easiest way to think about this is to think of a table in Excel. The power of Rows and Columns is that we combined, they allow you to have almost limitless flexibility in how your Pages and Profiles are laid out.
Cards
Cards are the building blocks used to customize your Pages and Profiles. You use Cards to do everything from add images (see Image Card) to listing People in your company (see Content card), to embedding a Video (see Video). It’s Cards that come together to create dynamic, knowledge-rich Pages and Profiles.
Styles
Styles are the primary mechanism for setting solution Fonts and Colors. This is the CSS(Cascading Style-sheets) for your site.
Security
Ikaun is secure by default. Meaning, you have to be explicitly invited to an ikaun solution. All access to data must be explicitly granted to Users using a combination of Groups and Privileges.
Content Card
Of all the Cards in the Card library, the most important, the most flexible, is the Content Card. This card allows you to display the Pages and Profiles on your site in an almost unlimited set of layouts and designs. We’ve done all the hard work of giving you options for displaying information in an intuitive, easy to read format. If you have to master one thing in ikaun it’s the Content Card.
